About SSC GD Constable

The Staff Selection Commission holds this examination every year for the Ministry of Home Affairs to recruit Constables (General Duty) in the Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal and Secretariat Security Force, and Riflemen (General Duty) in the Assam Rifles. Earlier cycles also included Sepoy posts in the Narcotics Control Bureau; the 2026 notice does not list them.

Candidates must have passed the Matriculation (10th class) examination and, in the 2026 cycle, be 18 to 23 years old on 1 January 2026, with relaxations for reserved categories. All posts are in Pay Level 3 (₹21,700 to ₹69,100).

The written stage is a Computer Based Examination of 80 objective questions in 60 minutes: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English or Hindi, 20 questions each. Each question carries 2 marks and 0.25 marks are deducted for a wrong answer. The questions are of Matriculation level, and the test is offered in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages.

Candidates who reach the minimum qualifying marks and are high enough in the merit list for their state, category and gender go on to the Physical Efficiency Test (a race: 5 km in 24 minutes for men, 1.6 km in 8½ minutes for women, outside Ladakh) and the Physical Standard Test (height, chest, weight), then a medical examination and document verification. These stages are conducted by the CAPFs and are not scored; the final merit is from the normalised CBE marks plus any NCC bonus marks.
