About SSC CPO

The SSC holds this open competitive examination to recruit Sub-Inspectors (Executive) in Delhi Police, Sub-Inspectors (GD) in the Central Armed Police Forces (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB) and, from the 2026 examination, Sub-Inspectors (Fire) in CISF. The posts are at pay Level 6, and a bachelor's degree is required.

The 2026 notice (10 September 2026) sets four stages: Paper I, a computer-based test; the Physical Standard Test and Physical Endurance Test (PST/PET); Paper II, a second computer-based test; and a Detailed Medical Examination. All are mandatory.

Paper I has 100 multiple-choice questions in 1 hour, in four parts of 25 questions with a sectional timer of 15 minutes each: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. Each question carries 1 mark and a wrong answer loses 0.25. Paper II has 20 questions each (2 marks each) in Reasoning, General Awareness and Quantitative Aptitude in 1 hour, and 100 questions (200 marks) in English Comprehension in 1 hour, with 0.50 off for a wrong answer.

Questions are in Hindi and English, except English Comprehension. Paper I shortlists candidates for the physical tests; final selection is on Paper II marks (with NCC bonus marks where applicable) and the candidate's preference of posts.
