About SSC CHSL
SSC CHSL recruits Lower Division Clerks/Junior Secretariat Assistants (Pay Level-2) and Data Entry Operators (Pay Level-4 and 5, and DEO Grade 'A' at Level-4) for ministries, departments and other offices of the Government of India. Candidates need to have passed Class 12 or equivalent; the age limit for the 2026 examination is 18 to 27 years on 1 August 2026, with the usual relaxations.
Tier-I is a computer-based test of 100 multiple-choice questions: English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude (basic arithmetic skill) and General Awareness, 25 questions and 50 marks each. The 2026 notice gives 60 minutes in all with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject. A wrong answer loses 0.50 marks. Questions are in English and Hindi, except the English Language part.
Tier-II is held in two sessions on one day. Session-I has Section-I (Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning, one hour), Section-II (English Language and Comprehension and General Awareness, one hour) and Section-III (Computer Knowledge, 15 minutes), each question worth 3 marks with 1 mark lost for a wrong answer. Session-II is the Skill Test for Data Entry Operators or the Typing Test for LDC/JSA.
Tier-I shortlists candidates for Tier-II. The final merit list is drawn up from the marks of Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II only, provided the candidate qualifies in Section-III and the Skill or Typing Test. Marks of different shifts are normalised.
