"SSC CPO previous year question paper PDF" is one of the most searched phrases before every Paper I. The honest answer is less simple than a download link: the Staff Selection Commission does release the papers, but only to candidates, for a short time, and for personal use. This guide explains where official papers come from, what the PDFs you find online usually are, and how to use past papers well now that the 2026 Paper I has a new pattern.

Where official SSC CPO papers come from

After each computer-based exam, SSC follows the same steps, which are set out in its notices:

  1. Tentative answer keys are placed on ssc.gov.in. Each candidate can log in and see their own question paper with their responses and the provisional keys, and can challenge a key online for ₹50 per question within the time allowed.
  2. The result is declared using the final keys.
  3. Final answer keys with the question paper and response sheet are uploaded for candidates to view in their login for a limited period. For CPO 2025, SSC's notice of 21 April 2026 opened this window from 21 April to 6 May 2026, and said the saved question paper is "strictly for personal use and self-analysis only".

So the official paper is available to the people who sat it, in their own login, for about two weeks. If you sat an earlier SSC CPO, look for a printout or PDF you saved during that window. If you did not, there is no official public archive of past CPO papers on ssc.gov.in.

What the PDFs online usually are

Most "SSC CPO previous year papers" shared online are one of these:

  • Memory-based papers rebuilt from what candidates remember after a shift. Useful for topic ideas, but the wording, options and answers are often wrong.
  • Papers saved by candidates during the answer key window. These are real, but SSC's notice says they are for personal use.
  • Old-pattern papers. Up to 2025, Paper I had 200 questions in 2 hours on one clock. Its questions are still useful for practice, but its time pressure was different.

Use any downloaded paper for practice, not as a guide to the exact questions you will get. Check doubtful answers against a textbook rather than the PDF's key.

The pattern changed in 2026: what that means for past papers

Up to 2025 2026
Questions 200 100
Time 2 hours 1 hour
Timer One clock for the whole paper 15 minutes for each part
Marks 200 100
Wrong answer −0.25 −0.25

The four subjects are the same, so the topics in old papers are still a good guide. What old papers cannot teach you is the sectional timer: 25 questions in 15 minutes, with no way to carry spare time from Reasoning into Quant. Practise that with tests in the new pattern, such as our SSC CPO Paper I practice tests.

How to use a past paper properly

  1. Split it into four parts of 25 questions and time each part at 15 minutes, to match 2026.
  2. Mark every question by topic (for example, "percentage", "syllogism", "polity"). After two or three papers you will see which topics come up again and again.
  3. Analyse it like a mock: right, wrong, not reached, and why. See how to analyse an SSC CPO mock test.
  4. Re-solve your wrong questions a week later.

What past papers reliably show

You do not need the exact papers to know where the marks are. The official syllabus and the structure of every Paper I give a clear picture:

  • Reasoning: analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, directions, syllogism and arrangement appear in almost every paper. See SSC CPO reasoning topics.
  • General Awareness: static GK (history, polity, geography, economy, science) carries most questions. See SSC CPO General Knowledge topics.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: arithmetic (percentage, profit and loss, ratio, averages, time and work, time and distance) plus algebra, geometry, mensuration and trigonometry. See SSC CPO Quant topics.
  • English: error spotting, fill in the blanks, vocabulary, idioms, one-word substitution, sentence improvement, cloze and comprehension. See SSC CPO English strategy.

Frequently asked questions

Does SSC publish SSC CPO previous year question papers?

SSC publishes each candidate's question paper with the final answer keys in the candidate's own login, for a limited period after the result. It does not keep a public archive of past CPO papers.

Are previous year papers enough for SSC CPO 2026?

No. They show the topics, but they were set for a 200-question paper on one clock. You also need practice with four 15-minute parts, which only new-pattern tests give.

Where can I practise SSC CPO questions for free?

Our SSC CPO page has 15 free full-length Paper I tests in the 2026 pattern and a topic-wise practice set, in English and Hindi.
