SSC CPO General Awareness: final revision plan for Paper I (27 October to 22 November)

General Knowledge and General Awareness is part II of SSC CPO Paper I: 25 questions in a 15-minute timer, +1 for a right answer and −0.25 for a wrong one. It is the one part where you cannot work an answer out: you either know it or you do not. That makes it the part where revision in the last weeks pays most directly, and where blind guessing costs most. This plan runs from Tuesday 27 October to Sunday 22 November, the day before the first Paper I shift (23 to 28 November 2026, proposed).
What General Awareness covers in SSC CPO
The official syllabus asks for general awareness of the environment and its application to society: current events, and everyday observations "as may be expected of an educated person". In practice, most questions come from static GK:
| Subject | Typical questions |
|---|---|
| History | Ancient dynasties, the Mughals, the freedom movement, its leaders, sessions and acts |
| Polity | Articles, schedules, amendments, Parliament, President, courts, constitutional bodies |
| Geography | Rivers, passes, national parks, soils, crops, states and capitals, world geography |
| Economy | RBI and banking terms, budget and taxes, five-year plans, schemes |
| Science | Physics units and laws, chemistry in daily life, human body, diseases and vitamins |
| Static GK | Books and authors, sports, awards, dances and festivals, headquarters |
| Current affairs | Major national and international events of the past year |
See the SSC CPO General Knowledge topics for a longer list.
The plan, week by week
Week 1 (27 October to 1 November): polity and history
- Polity: Fundamental Rights (Articles 14 to 32), Directive Principles, Fundamental Duties (Article 51A, now 11), President and Parliament, emergency articles (352, 356, 360), constitutional bodies (Election Commission, CAG, UPSC, Finance Commission).
- History: the freedom movement in order, from 1857 to 1947, with one key event per year you can place.
Week 2 (2 to 8 November): geography and economy
- Geography: rivers and where they rise, mountain passes, national parks by state, soils and crops, highest, longest and largest.
- Economy: RBI's tools (repo rate, CRR, SLR), budget terms (fiscal deficit), GST, NITI Aayog, NABARD, SEBI, the main schemes.
Week 3 (9 to 15 November): science and static GK
- Physics: SI units, simple laws (Newton, Ohm, Pascal, Boyle), light and sound.
- Chemistry: common names and formulas (baking soda, washing soda, quicklime), acids in daily life.
- Biology: vitamins and their deficiency diseases, blood, organs, plant tissues.
- Static GK: books and authors, sports trophies, classical dances by state, HQs of international bodies.
Week 4 (16 to 22 November): only revision
No new chapters. Read your own short notes twice, and sit one or two full SSC CPO mocks early in the week.
Current affairs: 15 minutes a day
Keep current affairs to 15 minutes a day, from one source, covering roughly the last twelve months: national awards, sports events, appointments to constitutional posts, major schemes, summits and records. Write each fact in one line. Do not chase every news story: in a 25-question part, current affairs is usually a handful of questions, and static GK is the rest.
How to revise so it stays
- One-line notes. "Article 356: President's Rule in a State" is enough. Long notes are never re-read.
- Pairs and contrasts. Learn confusable facts together: xylem (water) and phloem (food); repo (RBI lends) and reverse repo (RBI borrows); Article 352 (national emergency) and 360 (financial emergency).
- Daily recall. Before reading new material, write down five facts from yesterday without looking.
- Mocks for GK, too. Every full mock has 25 GK questions; add each one you missed to your notes.
How to attempt the 25 questions in 15 minutes
General Awareness is usually the fastest part. A sound approach:
- Read and answer at once what you know. Most GK questions take under 20 seconds.
- Mark the ones where you can rule out two options, and come back.
- Leave the ones where you have no idea. With −0.25 for a wrong answer, a blind guess among four options is worth only about 0.06 marks on average, while one after ruling out two options is worth about 0.38. See SSC CPO negative marking.
Time left over in this part cannot be carried to Quant or English, so use it to re-read your marked questions.
Frequently asked questions
How many current affairs questions come in SSC CPO?
SSC does not fix a number. The syllabus covers current events along with history, culture, geography, economy, polity and science, and in a 25-question part most questions are usually static GK.
What is the best source for SSC CPO General Awareness?
One standard static GK book you have already started, plus one monthly current affairs compilation. In the last month, revising one source well beats reading three.
Is the GK part of SSC CPO Paper I in Hindi?
Yes. General Knowledge and General Awareness questions are in Hindi and English.
